Educational Excursion to Gholvad (Dahanu):
On 6 and 7 January 2011, fifty six students from Grades 5-7 and six teachers along with the members of the Travel Code (organizers of the camp) went for their first ever educational excursion to Gholvad (Dahanu). The excursion was organised with the intent of enhancing the students' awareness about the Warli tribal community, their role in preserving the environmental resources and the threat to their lifestyle due to the over exploitation of resources. The students visited a Warli village with environmentalist, Mrs. Pheroza Tafti and collected information pertaining to the making of the world famous Warli paintings, the construction of their houses, and their different ways of worshipping the trees and animals so important for their survival. Teams were formed for games, quizes, presentations and projects. The students later designed posters to create awareness about the importance of conserving natural resources to sustain the environment.
Nature Trail – Talawe Lake – 7.2.2011:
Goldcrest High, Vashi (Primary and Middle school) organised a Nature Trail for its students from Grades 4 -7, in association with BNHS (Bombay).
The students were shown different types of birds (with the emphasis on migratory birds) and plantations by Mr. Julius Rego and his team. The visit was followed by a power point presentation to sensitize the students to the importance of mangrove plantations and how essential it was to save and preserve them for the benefit of mankind.
